Art Hotel Pallas

An unique hotel experience. Art Hotel Pallas is not your regular hotel. It is vibrant and edgy lifestyle hotel at the heart of Tartu full of fantastic art, respecting good people and a good sleep.

Estonia’s one and only art hotel, a hub of creativity and comfort, was opened in 1999 and thoroughly renovated in the spring of 2020 under the guidance of architect Ville Lausmäe. The interior inspired by the artists of the Pallas art school takes you on an artistic journey, leaving your body and soul invigorated and well-rested at the same time. Paintings in abundant colour palettes cover all the hotel walls and even the ceilings of some selected hotel rooms. We make your stay a work of art.

In 1999, the hotel received the Annual Award of the Estonian Association of Interior Architects;
In 2014, the hotel was selected as one of the top 10 Baltic hotels by The Guardian newspaper. The Guardian brings out the interior of the hotel, highlighting the reviving of its historical background in the design.

The story & art of Pallas

Estonia’s first art education school Pallas was established in Tartu in 1919. As of 1924, it started work as Estonia’s first institution of higher education in art. From 1930 until the bombing of Tartu in 1944, the art school operated at the current location of Art Hotel Pallas.

Art hotel Pallas was established in 1999. The name of the hotel was inspired by the wish to preserve the historical facts and the era where these events took place.
In addition to the name, the two establishments are connected by the use of paintings which serve as a hommage to the artists related to the school of Pallas.

The paintings start from the reception area which is inspired by Karl Pärsimägi’s oil painting “Interjöör” (“The interior”). The paintings of the 3rd floor hallway are inspired by the same piece of art, being more generalised and completed with a painting roll. The paintings of the 4th and 5th floor hallways are based on Arnold Akberg’s piece “Kompositsioon” (“Composition”). The reproduction of the painting is displayed on the hallway’s wall. The hotel’s two Suites and four Double Deluxe rooms are totally covered with wall paintings with references to the originals. Copies of selected works of art are also echibited in these rooms. The design of the 3rd floor rooms display wall art based on the graphic work of the artists of the Pallas era.

Rooms

The hotel has 62 modern rooms and suites located on the three top floors of the building, either overlooking the heart of Tartu city or a quiet inner courtyard. In addition to a good night’s sleep, each room offers an unique work of art accentuated by a bold colour scheme as a key element. Each floor also hides a room designed in black-and-white – a unique Joker card in the generally vibrant colour scheme.
The Suites feature wall and ceiling paintings inspired by a work of art. The remaining interior of the rooms is modest, yet luxurious, serving as a background to the paintings dominating the interior design. The wall and ceiling paintings are based on Konrad Mägi’s “Veneetsia motiiv” (“Venice motif”), Ado Vabbe’s “Arlekiin” (“Harlequin”) and the works of other artists.

Library lounge

On the 3rd and 4th floor of Art Hotel Pallas, you will find a cosy library created in cooperation with our good friend – the Rahva Raamat bookstore. Hundreds of books from different genres – fiction, culture, travel and children’s books – are waiting for you on the shelves.
The library includes dozens of board games for children as well as adults for fun leisure time.
